Contract Summary: This is a short term contract (3 Months) for a Data Quality Assistant who will be contracted by Kijani Forestry Company for purposes of reviewing, cleaning, editing, and validating GPS-generated polygon data used in forestry operations. The role ensures that spatial datasets accurately represent plantation boundaries, compartments, roads, conservation areas, and other forestry assets. The incumbent will work closely with the Data Manager and other data specialists, field teams, and data analysts to maintain high-quality geospatial data that supports planning, inventory management, and decision-making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and clean GPS polygon datasets collected from field teams.
- Edit and correct polygon geometry, including overlaps, gaps, slivers, duplicate features, and invalid geometries.
- Verify polygon boundaries against satellite imagery, maps, and field records.
- Collaborate with field survey teams to clarify discrepancies in GPS data.
- Ensure spatial data complies with company polygon standards and naming conventions.
- Validate GPS coordinates, attributes, and metadata for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain version control and documentation of all data edits.
- Generate data quality reports highlighting errors, corrections made, and outstanding issues.
- Support in updating forestry maps and spatial databases.
- Assist in preparing geospatial datasets for analysis, reporting, and operational planning.
- Recommend improvements to data collection and quality assurance procedures.
- Perform any other duty as assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Population Studies, Environmental Science, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Additional certification in GIS or remote sensing is an advantage.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in GIS, spatial data management, or data quality assurance.
- Experience working with GPS data and polygon editing is preferred.
- Experience in forestry, agriculture, conservation, or land management is an added advantage.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, or similar platforms.
- Experience editing GPS-generated polygons and resolving topology errors.
- Knowledge of coordinate reference systems and map projections.
- Ability to interpret satellite imagery and aerial photographs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic understanding of GPS devices and mobile data collection applications.
